Limited Registration helps breeders protect their breeding programs. If breeders do not want puppies used for breeding purposes, they can request the option for those puppies. In view of this, the AKC introduced the Limited Registration papers to help breeders sell non-breeding dogs to the public.
What does limited Papers mean when buying a dog?
What is the Limited Register? Dogs on the Limited Register are considered by their breeder to not be quite up to the standard that is required for showing or breeding. Quite often dogs sold as ‘pets’ will be registered on the Limited Register.
What does limited pedigree papers mean?
Full meaning the breeder believes the dog is worthy of being bred from or they trust that the person will do the right thing with the dog. Limited means that the dog is considered not good enought to breed from or the breeder may be protecting their lines from mis-use of breeding etc etc.

Can you breed dogs without papers?
The presence or absence of registration papers doesn’t change the genes (DNA) inside a dog. He can be purebred without having papers – and sadly, he can have papers without really being purebred. Only a DNA test can tell you whether he’s really purebred.
